Strawberry Eaters (2018) is a film about two strawberry farmers whose field is destroyed by voracious snails. The couple tries to start a new life in the city, but when the woman announces they’re expecting a child, the paranoid man suspects that snails are behind that as well. The film is produced by Eesti Joonisfilm.
Snails are strawberry farmers’ greatest fear. In Strawberry Eaters, you take that fear to the next level. How did you come up with the idea of aggressive snails and decide to make a film out of it?
I once saw a weird baby carriage with a canopy that looked a bit like a snail shell to me. That immediately got me thinking about the horrible concept of having a snail baby. The idea for the strawberry farmer couple who might beget such a creature and the aggressive snails responsible for it soon followed quite naturally.
